Who we are
J Group Renovations Ltd. ("J Group", "we", "us") is a family-owned renovation and construction company based in Richmond Hill, Ontario, serving Toronto and the GTA. This policy explains how we handle personal information we collect through jgrouprenovations.com, our online forms, and when you call, text, email or meet with us. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
We have a designated privacy contact who is responsible for how we handle personal information. You can reach them at jgrouprenovations@gmail.com or (416) 824-8825.
Information we collect
Information you give us. When you request a consultation, download a resource or contact us, we collect your name, email address and phone number, and the details you choose to share about your project: the type of work, the property's location or address, your timing and budget, messages, and any photos or files you attach.
Trade partners. When a contractor or supplier applies to work with us or sends a bid, we collect the company name, contact details, trades and service areas, years in business, crew size, WSIB and liability insurance status, website or social links, and bid details such as price, dates, scope and quote files.
Information collected automatically. When you visit our website, we and our service providers collect technical information such as your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view, how long you stay, the site or ad that sent you, campaign tags in the link, and your approximate location. We collect this with cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies, analytics and advertising" below).
Calls and messages. If you call, text, email or message us, we keep a record of the conversation so we can respond and manage your project.
How we use your information
- To respond to your request, call you back and book your consultation
- To prepare a clear quote, and to plan, manage and complete your project, including permits, scheduling and coordinating trades
- To send you what you asked for, such as our Renovation Planning Checklist
- To review trade partner applications and bids, and to contact partners about work
- To understand how visitors use our website, which pages and ads lead to inquiries, and how to improve our services
- To measure and improve our advertising, including Google Ads
- To protect our website and forms from spam, fraud and abuse
- To meet our legal, tax, accounting, warranty and insurance obligations
We only use your information for these purposes, or for another purpose you agree to.
Your consent
When you submit a form, call or email us, you agree that we may use your information to respond and follow up about your request by phone, email or text message. We only send commercial electronic messages, such as promotions or newsletters, when we have your consent under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and every such email includes a way to unsubscribe.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us. If you do, we may not be able to provide some services, such as preparing a quote.
Who we share it with
We never sell or rent your personal information. We share it only when needed, and only the details that are needed:
- Service providers that run our website and business tools, including Squarespace (website hosting, forms and contact records) and Google (email, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Tag Manager, reCAPTCHA spam protection and Google Maps). They may only use your information to provide their services to us.
- Trades, suppliers, designers and inspectors working on your project, once you hire us. For example, a trade partner receives the property address and scope of work they need. We don't share one trade partner's bid with other bidders.
- Professional advisors such as our accountant, lawyer and insurer.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
- A new owner, if our business is sold or reorganized, under the same protections described in this policy.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them, along with similar technologies, for the following:
- Google Analytics tells us how visitors use our website, in aggregate. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Google Ads. We use Google Ads conversion tracking to measure which ads lead to inquiries. We may also use remarketing, which lets Google show our ads to people who have visited our website, on Google Search and on other websites. Google uses cookies to show ads based on your past visits to our website and other sites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's My Ad Center, or opt out of interest-based advertising from many companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada (YourAdChoices.ca).
- Google reCAPTCHA protects our forms from spam. It collects information about your device and how you use the page, under Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
- Embedded content, such as the Google Map on our Contact page and Instagram posts, comes from those services, which may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of our website may not work as well if you do.
Where your information is stored
Our service providers may store and process your information on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is there, it is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessed by its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Customer and project records are kept for as long as required for warranty, tax and legal purposes, typically up to seven years after the work is finished. Inquiries, applications and bids that don't lead to work are deleted once we no longer need them. When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous.
How we protect it
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections on our website, password-protected accounts with access limited to the people who need it, and sharing only what is necessary. No website or storage system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, as the law requires.

- tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we have used it
- correct information that is wrong or incomplete
- stop contacting you, or withdraw your consent
