What clients say

★★★★★
"Finding a skilled, honest contractor to do work in a condo can be a challenge, but J Group hit it out of the park for us… We wanted to install a floating sink vanity… The vanity could probably support the weight of a small car… The tile work was masterful, the electrical was perfectly planned."

Local know-how

Bathrooms in Richmond Hill Homes

Most bathroom projects in Richmond Hill start from one of these four situations.

Ensuites from the ’90s and 2000s

In Bayview Hill, Rouge Woods, Westbrook, Jefferson and Oak Ridges, many ensuites still have a corner jetted tub and a small shower. Swapping them for a large walk-in shower, a double vanity and heated floors is a popular upgrade.

Family bathrooms & tub-to-shower

Main bathrooms get the most wear. We replace dated tub surrounds with new tile and glass, or convert the tub to a walk-in shower when no one uses it, keeping a tub elsewhere in the house if resale matters to you.

Post-war homes

In Mill Pond, Crosby, Harding and Richvale, older bathrooms can hide galvanized supply pipes, cast-iron drains and no exhaust fan. We replace what’s needed once the walls are open, so your new bathroom isn’t sitting on old plumbing.

Basement & condo bathrooms

A new basement bathroom needs a building permit and careful drain planning. Condo bathrooms on the Yonge corridor need management approval, elevator bookings and set work hours. We handle both.

Permits & City rules

Richmond Hill Bathroom Rules We Handle

  • Building permits — needed when plumbing moves, fixtures are added (like a new basement bathroom or a second sink), or walls change. Replacing fixtures in the same spots usually doesn’t need one. We prepare the drawings and book every inspection.
  • Electrical — heated floors, lighting, fans and outlets are done by licensed electricians and inspected by Ontario’s Electrical Safety Authority (ESA).
  • Ventilation — every bathroom we build gets a properly sized exhaust fan vented outside, to keep moisture out of your walls.
  • Construction hours — Richmond Hill’s noise by-law prohibits construction noise from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday to Saturday, and all day on Sundays and statutory holidays.
  • Condo approvals — management sign-off, elevator bookings, insurance certificates and work-hour rules, handled for you.

Questions

Richmond Hill Bathroom Renovation FAQ

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Richmond Hill?

Full bathrooms start from about $19,000 before HST, powder rooms from about $7,000 and primary ensuites from about $31,000. Moving plumbing, the amount of tile, custom glass and fixture choices affect the price. You get a clear quote after your consultation. See the full cost guide →

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

A typical full bathroom takes 2 to 4 weeks. Powder rooms and tub-to-shower conversions are faster; heated floors or moving plumbing add time.

Can you replace my corner jetted tub with a walk-in shower?

Yes. It’s a popular ensuite upgrade. The drain usually has to move, so it needs new plumbing and a permit, which we handle. Many clients add a double vanity and heated floors at the same time.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom renovation in Richmond Hill?

Only if plumbing moves, fixtures are added or walls change. Replacing fixtures in the same spots usually doesn’t need one. When a permit is needed, we prepare the drawings and apply to the City of Richmond Hill.

Will I be without a bathroom during the work?

If you have a second bathroom, you’ll barely notice us. If it’s your only one, tell us up front, and we’ll plan the timing with you before we start.

Can you add a bathroom in my basement?

Yes. A new basement bathroom needs a building permit, and the drain layout decides where the fixtures can go. We check this at the consultation. Basement renovations →

What does the $199 consultation include?

An in-home visit, an honest talk about budget and design, and a measured floor plan report of your bathroom. The $199 is credited in full toward your project.
