Hiring a contractor
6 Red Flags When Hiring a Renovation Contractor
Most renovation horror stories start with the same warning signs. Here is what to watch for — and what we do instead.
A big cash deposit and no contract
A handshake deal leaves you with no protection. We put the scope, price and schedule in writing before any work starts.
No insurance or WSIB coverage
If a worker is hurt on your property, you could be on the hook. We are licensed, fully insured and WSIB-covered — certificates on request.
“You don't need a permit”
Skipping permits on structural, plumbing or electrical work can cause problems with insurance and resale. We pull the permits your project needs.
A one-line quote with no detail
A single number hides surprises. You get a clear quote that spells out what is included before you commit.
No reviews or past work to show
Ask for real projects and real reviews. Ours are on Google and HomeStars, and our project photos are our own work.
Unlicensed electrical or gas work
Electrical and gas work must be done by licensed trades. Ours is — and it is inspected when the permit requires it.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a renovation cost in Toronto?
It depends on scope. Kitchens start from about $30,000 and full bathrooms from about $22,000, before HST, with appliances extra. Whole-home renovations vary with size, layout changes and finishes. You get a clear quote after your consultation. Try our cost estimator →
What does the $199 consultation include?
An in-person visit to your home or space, an honest conversation about budget, timing and feasibility, and a measured floor plan report. The $199 is credited in full toward your project.
Do I need a permit for my renovation?
Usually, yes, if the work involves structural changes, new or moved plumbing, electrical work, a basement apartment, an addition or a raised deck. Cosmetic updates like paint and flooring usually don't need one. When a permit is required, we handle it.
How long does a renovation take?
Most kitchens take 4 to 8 weeks from demolition to final install. Bathrooms are usually shorter, and whole-home projects depend on scope and permits. You get a realistic schedule with your quote.
